Health and safety

Health and safety

  1. Stay alert - The more awake you are, the less likely you are to get hurt.
  2. Wear suitable clothes - work clothes should fit properly. Anything that can catch in machinery or trip you up is hazardous.
  3. Use the right tools - if you need tape, get tape. It may be handier to use a blue tack, but you are more likely to get injured.
  4. Dont mess around - practical jokes can be dangerous, especially around heavy machinery. If you feel the urge to play, resist it until after class.
  5. Be tidy -  Always put away tools when they are not in use. Keep the floors clean, pick up scraps and wipe up spills. A slip or trip can be fatal.
  6. Tell someone - Never fail to report accidents, defective equipment and or unsafe conditions.
  7. First aid - if you're hurt, if you don't act immediately it could become worse.
  8. Dont take shortcuts - Next to sheer carelessness, short cuts are probably the biggest killer of all. If its worth doing something its worth doing right.

Painting and drawing materials- could be ingested through accidental hand to mouth ingestion, spraying, heating or sanding may cause a potential for inhalation of toxic pigments.
Safety Precaution - Obtain a material safety data sheet (MSDS) on your paints to find out what pigments you are using, use tube paints and commercially available inks when possible. Avoid mixing dry pigments.
work in a well ventilated area, wear protective gloves  when working with paints, varnishes and binders, and always  wash you hands before you eat, drink, smoke, or touch your face.

Copyright

Copyright

How to protect your work with copyright.
A correctly worded notice, that states that the work is protected under law. Although a copyright notice is not required, because work is automatically subject to copyright protection by law, displaying a notice shows that you have an awareness of copyright and take infringements of your work seriously.

How does it affect me?
Copyright exists to protect the rights of those who create stuff. The law states that only the copyright holder can copy, adapt or make available to the public.

How to make sure in not infringing copyright.
If you need to use someone elses work, make sure you recieve permission from the original creator, if this is not possible find something else that is not under copyright.

Consumer insights play an important role in a publisher’s strategies, from acquisitions to pricing and marketing campaigns. For instance this graph shows which genre is currently best selling (adult fiction) and which is the least popular (cooking). Information like this plays a large roll in which books are published and also which books writers should be striving to get published.

Once viewed by dedicated artists and current employees of DC, if your work has promise you will be contacted. If this happens you then are asked to pitch your idea within 15 seconds, during this time you are expected to fully discuss your idea and "capture" the audience.  In the early 1980s, Andy Warhol and painter Jean-Michel Basquiat began a series of collaborative paintings.
The two artists collaborated on numerous paintings together. Warhol usually painted first, allowing

Basquiat to layer over his work. On many occasions Basquiat wrote a word, and then drew a line
through it, simultaneously stating and contradicting the word’s meaning.
