Dan Smith
Dan is an english born tattoo artist, he was absorbed into British culture, he then moved to New Zealand at a young age.Tattooing having the history it does there, sparked his
interest early and after meeting Dean Parkin from Sacred Tattoo, he knew that this is what he wanted to do with his life. He moved to australia in 2001, and met up with Shep and Gomer. Shortly after this he was asked to work in his first shop, ' the body art shop' in south australia. This is where he set his style to something he is know best known for. In 2003 he met Jim Miner,Daniel Albrigo and Kat Von D, they openly invited him to work alongside them a little more permanently In 2004 he moved to California where he worked in 'Arcadia' and this was his first time working on american soil by 2006 he was spending the majority of his time in orange county. He then started working at Eric Maaske's Classic Tattoo with Tim McAlary,Tom Moser, Colin Dowling and other greats. During this his band had became more well known and were traveling alot, he took tattooing with him, working from the back of a van between shows.When home, he spent alot of time tattooing out of his private studio in Santa Ana, and of course frequent visits to Goldrush Tattoo in Costa Mesa. During a home visit in 2008 and whilst visiting Kat Von D he was asked to move to Hollywood and work in 'High Voltage' he gladly accepted the offer. To this day Dan Smith still works there.
